Patient Participation Group

What is Patient Participation?

Patient participation refers to patients taking an active interest in their health care providers.  Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) operate within GP Surgeries and health centres.  Priorities are developed and agreed locally in order to meet local needs and to reflect the interests and commitment of the participants.

PPGs play an important role in informing Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) via a Clinical Reference Committee made up of GP representatives for each locality in a region about the patient’s perspective on the quality, availability and provision of services. Our aim is to give a patient’s perspective on the services that are provided.

We represent all patients at Greenside Surgery.  Group members were recruited through expressions of interest publicised in the waiting area. Along with two members of the practice team we currently meet every two months.  We act as an important point of contact between patients and the practice.

We hope to establish a real opportunity for patients to influence decisions about which services are provided, how they are provided, and how the practice is run.
